Masks

Is your life yours?
Do you live for you?

Are you a prisoner to life?
Or do you lead your own?

We live day to day and hide.
Behind a veil we hide

Afraid to reveal our beauty

Afraid to remove the mask.

Are you in control?
Can you let it go?

We forget to look closely.
What we do not see
Owns us.

What we do not see
Controls us.

Deep down inside
The place where we hide
Our soul stirs
It screams
It pleads

“Remove the mask!”

If you hide in society
If you live in shame for goodness
Your soul is in shame
Your soul screams in vain.

All that renders lost feelings
All that gives forth hope
Begins to fade away.
We are not in control
We need our souls.

Enough.

There is no turning back time
There is only here and now
There is only life
There is only one.

Live today
Not yesterday
Nor tomorrow

Masks tie to your soul
Masks weigh on our hearts
Masks infringe on our minds
Masks get us lost
They hide our souls

Enough!

Time to reclaim
Time to release our souls
Our spirits whole
Show yourself and Smile
Live and be who you were meant to be!

  1. Dear Enreal, how I wish you and I could sit down face to face and talk. You are so deep, searching for truth and answers and I feel such a strong connection with everything you write.

~zen~ your words reached my heart… thank you

  2. Yes! Enough is enough. Let us stand naked before the world.

    You go first. :O)

~mossy~ very funny 🙂 I do like the enthusiasm though 😉

  3. Great post, I have been thinking a lot about this mask, and battle between image and self, Sometimes I feel like I am renting a life, that I am hear but not really hear, we ofetn speak yet say nothing, and I wonder if my words are heard!

  4. In my life there is a long found challenge. In childhood, we (from my experience) learn unknown wisdom and unknown foolishness. No one necessarily tagged which was which. So much was accepted in by evidence; They think I am this; They want me to act like this; They say when I do this, I am wrong, I am bad. Yet in those times of judgement, I assumed it was love itself that was in the balance. Conform or be rejected and shamed from now on.

Part of growing up spiritually, is to uncover the mask this “evidence” left me with. It is a bit of a job for life, for on occasion, new “evidence” will bring the judgement back, as if it never left.

It is truly great to read post and comments like the ones above. We get to see what radical self honesty unveils. We get to see ourselves as if inside another being, and understand much more than words themselves ever tell.

We talk of our life. We see ourselves walking, holding a message that came from somewhere and something much more than us, yet in us, waiting, not to be masked, but to shine.

  5. So true Enreal. Your words again touch my soul and remind me of that which I am not; and to search deeper for that which I am. Like you say “Enough!” Thank you once more for your soul stirring, beautiful words. Peace, Light and Love, CordieB.

  6. Amazing! You blew me away. In all the busyness of life, I miss your words, Enreal. These masks…it is not easy to get rid of them but let us stand together before the world without them, side by side.

Masks…before they suffocate us, we must wake up. Realize life. Life…is simply not worth peeking through a hole for the hole shows only what is before us. Life is so much more than that.

As always, your words are beautiful…

  7. Hi enreal… I thought of you when away. Thanks for your comment. My view of masks, or ‘personas’ as C. G. Jung put it, is that they can be okay providing they’re in the service of God. We can’t always be in rapture. There’s a society that needs movement and change… and that often requires the appropriate role playing–but again, not for its own sake but for God’s.

    p.s. I like the new look. 🙂

  8. Gypsy~ thank you… you are one of my inspirations… always

dumakey~ your words are absorbed by the universe even if they are never heard by human ears… masks… we all wear them… let us at least recognize our true selves and then take the next step by removing the veil… thank you for your thoughts

Benafia~ your thoughts are wise and honest… “We talk of our life. We see ourselves walking, holding a message that came from somewhere and something much more than us, yet in us, waiting, not to be masked, but to shine.” BEAUTIFUL!!! thank you for adding to this

Cordie~ you are so much more than you realize… I could only pray to be a glimmer of the light you shine… i am so blessed to know you and your wisdom

glaize~ side by side… I shall be right next to you and your beautiful soul! again you bless me with your wisdom… peace and love

Michael~we can’t always be in rapture… I never thought about it from that aspect… we do need change, and what better way… and Who better for… thank you
